2014 WIAA State Championships

March 2, 2014/0 Comments/in Askren Wrestling Academy/by Ben Askren

I just wanted to give a little recap of AWA at the 2014 WIAA State Tournament.  Once again this is one of my favorite weekends of the year, I can still vividly remember winning my first state title and there are not many moments to this days that match that feeling.  It is such a great weekend because the stakes run so high, the thrill of victory is immense and the agony of defeat is immeasurable.  Our young athletes work hard all year round for 6 minutes in the Kohl Center at the end of February.  We were lucky enough to have 20 athletes place this year, here is a list of all of them.

*We define a member as anyone who was a paid member in the past calendar year.

6th place: Kai Castenada- Wauwatosa

5th place: Turner Pruett- West Bend East, Duncan Isbister- Cedarburg, Jacob Raschka- Pewaukee

4th place: Aidan Yde- Arrowhead, Jordan Yatchak- Waukesha South, Brandon Depies- Randon Lake

3rd place: Nathan Smith- Mukwonago, Zach Smith- Port Washington, Casey Crangle- Menomonee Falls, Jordan Gundrum- West Bend East, Dallas Wanta- West Allis Hale, Ty Pelot- Two Rivers, Alex Marshall- Grafton

2nd place: Josh Depies- Random Lake, Wilder Wichman- Johnson Creek

1st place: Beau Breske- Hartford, Reed Anklam- Random Lake

Congrats to everyone who placed as I know it was the results of lots of years of hard work!  Can’t wait to have all the high schoolers back training on March 10.

Adam Becker- Johnson Creek
