Training Tip #6 – Learning New Techniques
When learning new techniques, we tend to keep the same preconceptions we had when we were younger. Most notably that the best guys can hit moves quickly, therefore we try to hit them as fast as possible.
Take a step back and think about how well you could color in a picture if I gave you only 10 seconds…then think about how precise you could be given 10 minutes. Precision takes time; the more precise we strive to be in our practice, the more quickly and precisely we are able to perform the action. Once precise, always precise…once sloppy, always sloppy. Take your time; don’t rush through moves. If you take the time to learn the moves right the first time, you save yourself the trouble of having to correct them later on.
